Shinobu Ono, a striker for the Japanese national women's team, plans to transfer to French league club Lyon, it was learned Thursday.
The 28-year-old, currently with INAC Kobe of the Japan Women's Football League, or "Nadeshiko" League, is slated to hold a press conference on Friday.
With her sharp dribbling and decisive play, Ono was part of the Nadeshiko Japan national team that won the FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany last year and grabbed silver at the London Olympic Games this summer.
Ono is a four-time top scorer in the Nadeshiko League, accumulating a record 163 goals in total.
Lyon won the UEFA Women's Champions League in each of the past two seasons. Another Japanese striker, Ami Otaki, already plays for the club.
